FAQs

How long does it take?

I tend to work in an open-ended and client-led way in terms of duration. Clients stay until they feel ready to leave, so this might be for a few weeks or months; some clients like the regularity of this space long-term and stay for a year or more. I am also happy to work in a time-limited way, where we agree the number of sessions at the start, usually 6 or 12 sessions. I usually meet clients on a weekly basis and sessions are 50 minutes long.

What is the difference between psychotherapy and counselling?

This is a much-debated point and many practitioners are happy to use both terms interchangeably and there is indeed a good deal of cross-over. Personally, I feel the term psychotherapist best describes my way of working, in terms of it being more open-ended, generally mid or long term, with an emphasis on how our past experiences influence the present. It should be said that one is not better than the other and that the evidence shows that the biggest single factor to successful outcomes in any type of therapy is the working relationship between the therapist and client.

How much does it cost?

I charge £60 per 50-minute session.
I am happy to discuss concessions for students and those on a limited budget.

When are you available?

I am available for face to face counselling on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I work in both Witney and Oxford.

Do you work online?

I prefer to work in person if at all possible, but I understand that sometimes it is difficult to make it to a session for all sorts of reasons and I am happy to work online as a back-up option.

What is the next step?

The next step is to get in touch by emailing me with some brief details and I will call you and have a quick chat and see what your requirements are. We can then go on to arrange an initial session.

What will happen at the initial session?

We will meet for 50 minutes and talk about what has brought you to therapy. You can get an understanding of how I work and what sessions might feel like with me and have the opportunity to ask any questions.
